Smoke Detectors can be your best friend!

AJ's Electrical tip -

Install smoke detectors your home, in the garage, and in stairwells and hallways, and from time to time check to make sure they are working correctly. A good rule of thumb is to carrying out a whole-house check twice a year, on the same day you change all the clocks to “Spring Forward” and “Fall Back” for Daylight Savings Time.

Another option is to have your smoke detectors hard wired by a qualified electrician at AJ’s Electrical Contractors.

AJ's Electrical Tip - Fixing your own small electrical appliances!!

Use caution when trying to fix any small electrical appliance such as a toaster or microwave. Preventable accidents occur much too often by people attempting to repair a toaster or some other household electrical appliance with a knife. Usually there is a simple fix but the proper knowledge is essential to repair the electrical appliance safely and effectively.

AJ's Electrical Tip - Be aware of your Power Strips

Power Strips can be extremely hazardous if overloaded. Keep you power strips loaded as per the manufacturers' recommendations. If used carelessly power strips are a major cause of electrical accidents and household fires.

AJ's Electrical Tip - Do you have flickering lights?

If your lights flicker, or turn off and then on, for some unknown reason, this is often an indication of a loose wire connection or broken wire either at the light itself, the switch or at the home electrical panel.  Ensure your lighting terminations are tight, properly grounded and that the switches are connected and installed properly in the recessed box. Make sure your terminal connections are not touching any bare metal.
